Rediscovering the joy of blogging by returning to basics: a simple, static site after years with complex CMS solutions.
I’ve missed writing. It’s been a while since my last active blog – so long, in fact, I’ve almost lost count of the years. I might not have been a prolific blogger, but I genuinely miss sharing my discoveries and what I’m working on.
I’ve attempted to start other blogs over the years, experimenting with various Content Management Systems (CMS) and hosting solutions. However, WordPress has become too convoluted and heavy for my taste, and other PHP-based options weren’t quite the ‘plug and play’ experience I was hoping for. So, I’ve decided to embrace simplicity and return to a static site blog.
After exploring several static site generators, Astro quickly became my favorite. It was the only one where the tutorial examples worked seamlessly for me right out of the box. Plus, when I inevitably messed things up, their Discord community was incredibly supportive and helpful.
Now What?
My plan is to finish the Astro tutorial and then start filling this space with more posts. So, as the Astro starter blog wisely puts it, “Watch this space for more to come!” (I couldn’t resist borrowing that line; it fits perfectly here). I’ll also be tinkering with the CSS and site structure until I’m happy with how it looks and feels.
